There have been heretics of every hue that have opposed this Scriptural doctrine. They usually point to some individual verse or passage of the Bible, such as contain terms like, “world”, “all” or “all men” and taking them out of their context, give them a universal context, in order to put into men’s minds the error that God, on his part, is gracious to all men, and willing to save them all. Most, however, argue against this truth by means of mere humanistic principle, and accuse those that maintain this truth of Scripture, that they make God the author of sin, or present him as a great tyrant, denying that he is merciful, and that there is no place for the truth of man’s responsibility. Against all such opposition to the truth of God’s sovereign grace, the Bible’s own condemnation is enough, “O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, why hast thou made me thus” (Romans 9:20)? The doctrine of predestination is intimately related to the entire system of truth concerning salvation, that the denial of it, distorts the whole, every part of it.
