Guard my steps as I draw near,
Into Thy sanctuary;
That I may count Thy presence dear,
In Thine appointed way.
Guard my steps as I enter through,
To worship reverently;
And keep my Saviour’s blood in view,
As I draw near to Thee.
Guard my steps as I seek Thy face,
To listen quietly;
Be slow to speak, and hear Thy voice,
To Thee my vows all pay.
Guard my steps through the blood-rent veil,
With awe and godly fear;
That Jesus for me may prevail,
In holiness draw near.
Guard my steps towards Thy throne,
Where earthbound men can come;
To worship Thee my God alone,
With grace and joy o’ercome.
